Entry Requirements

You must hold a minimum of 48 UCAS Tariff points from the one of the following qualifications:

  • BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject
  • GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level.

You will also need a GCSE English qualification at Grade 4/C or above

Occupational Profile

The Higher Technical Qualification in computing, general pathway, is a level 5 qualification, which is equivalent to the first two years of an Honours degree. It has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for a successful career in computing.

Year 1 – Computing BTEC HND/HTQ – General Pathway

This year builds underpinning core skills effectively, preparing you for further subject specialisation in year 2. You’ll develop your detailed understanding of a range of aspects of the computing world, including how different elements of computing interact and depend upon each other.

You’ll study the general pathway, as well as the specialist pathways such as data analytics, network engineering and cyber security.

Year 2 – Computing BTEC HND/HTQ – General Pathway

This year will enable you to develop a broad base of skills and knowledge to take forward. You’ll be given the opportunity to learn about several emerging trends and technologies, and how to apply technical change in a rapidly evolving industry.

Training and Development Summary

You’ll gain the skills and experience you need to progress to a career in the computing industry. It will lead you to a range of exciting jobs, such as a Business Analyst, Cyber Security Officer, Systems Analyst and Network Engineer.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment for both years will be through coursework for both practical and theoretical elements.

Professional Recognition and Career Progression

Successful completion of an HTQ in Computing will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills you need for relevant industry employment. Upon completion, you can seek a top-up degree at university and complete the final stages of a full degree in computing.
