IoT Dudley (Starting September 2021)
This programme will be delivered as Day Release from the Institute of Technology and there will also be the requirement to access virtual session via MS Teams.
Typically, 4 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or equivalent, including Mathematics, English and a Science. Relevant industry experience and a clear DBS check. You will also require a Level 2 Btec or Level 2 apprenticeship in a closely related subject.
You will be expected to have a sound level of mathematics and a good level of written English. Evidence of GCSE Grade A-C in maths and English, of Functional Skills Level 2 equivalent is a requirement for entry onto this course, you will need to provide evidence prior to enrolment.
Prior learning, and experience will be taken into consideration on an individual basis, diagnostic tests will be carried out prior to enrolment.
This qualification has been designed to meet the needs of learners who wish to acquire specialist skills and knowledge in the medical engineering speciality. Learners complete a mix of more general engineering units alongside specialist medical units, focusing on areas such as principles of servicing a wide range of medical equipment and ICT for medical engineers.
Healthcare Engineering Specialists are predominantly involved in highly skilled, complex work and must, as a minimum be able to:
– Apply safe systems of working
– Make a technical contribution to either the design, development, quality assurance, manufacture, installation, commissioning, decommissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, systems, processes or services
– Apply proven techniques and procedures to solve engineering/manufacturing problems
– Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in communicating both technical and non-technical information
– Have a commitment to continued professional development.
1. This apprenticeship programme aims to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to ensure the healthcare engineer is able to:
– Complete their duties in line with company procedures and priorities
– ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors
– ensure patient dignity, respect and Caldicott principles (patient confidentiality) are met
– comply with health and safety, environmental, sustainability, and engineering regulations and standards including specific healthcare requirements.
– comply with medical protocols for infection prevention and biohazard control
This apprenticeship programme will cover a wide range of knowledge, skills and behaviours, and will cover units such as:
– The role of the medical engineer
– Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace
– Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
– Acceptance Testing, Maintaining, Fault Finding and Decommissioning of Medical Equipment
– Anatomy, Physiology and Measurement
As well as a range of other mandatory and optional units.
On completion you can progress onto Higher Level Engineering apprenticeship programmes.
